SCULPTURE COURTYARD
Equity Gallery’s new sculpture court offers opportunities for its members to show three-dimensional work designed for outdoor display. The space comprises 176 square feet and is 22 feet long by 8 feet deep. Running the entire length of the rear wall will be a 10-foot-high vertical planting wall. In the daytime the space is illuminated by a soft indirect light; a very basic outdoor flood light system will be used during open evening hours. Multi-purpose plinths for displaying works and benches for seating will be situated throughout. The courtyard will be open year-round weather permitting.
Ideal Projects
Sculpture projects utilizing durable materials able to withstand the elements is preferred over projects requiring complex technologies and equipment or projects utilizing materials that will deteriorate or fail under inclement weather conditions. We suggest installations comprising 5 - 7 individual works dependent upon dimensions. Formal installations of small to mid-sized works as well as site-specific and mixed media iterations are welcome. Projects utilizing toxic or environmentally harmful materials will not be considered.
The gallery will assist in the installation of works and provide a choice of display plinths. However, if necessary, it is expected that the artist/maker will provide any special installation equipment or materials—including requisite installation expertise as needed to meet gallery exhibition standards. Special project -specific installation assistance, materials or equipment must be clearly indicated on the proposal along with a budget and funding source for covering costs associated with said conditions.
Sculpture Projects are expected to run between 4 and 6 weeks. Preference will be provided to projects that offer works for sale at moderate prices in keeping with the gallery’s extant market reach. Works consigned for sale will be subject to the gallery’s normal business practices including marketing promotions and commission splits.
Submissions
Submitting a sculpture court proposal is free for Rose, Emerald, Diamond, and Lifetime Equity members. Proposals submitted by Diamond and Lifetime members will receive scheduling preference. Cobalt and Ivory members will be charged a $20 submission fee.
Proposals need to include 3 to 5 images that are examples of actual works to be installed and a simple diagram visualizing the completed installation with number and dimensions of works clearly indicated. Images must be captioned with date, dimensions, media, and title (if applicable) of the works. Please also include a 3 – 5 sentence statement of the project and a single page resume.
Completed applications can be uploaded via the gallery’s website and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. When feasible, acceptance decisions will include available exhibition dates.
