The Commission Studio

Featuring Hyeseung Marriage-Song

New York Artists Equity is pleased to announce that the The Commission Studio is open for business! In our latest series of new online projects to support our diverse community of artists, we will be providing a platform for figurative artists who take commission for their work. From May through June 2020, we will be spotlighting Brooklyn-based artist Hyeseung Marriage-Song!

Hyeseung Marriage Song, a novel figurative painter and Artist Equity member, offers a uniquely modern approach to the art of portraiture. Her captured likenesses are deep dives into the mood and spirit of her sitters---and their presence, channeled through her empathy for the human soul, leaves an indelible projection on the canvas. Because we believe that you should be able to gaze upon that special someone always and forever, Equity is offering a very limited opportunity to commission a portrait by Song.

Do not miss the wonderful opportunity to commission a timeless personalized piece of artwork for a loved one, friend, or even yourself!

About The Artist:

Hyeseung Marriage-Song is an American contemporary representational painter best known for her large-scale figurative oil paintings and prints whose visual idioms toggle between resolution and fragmentation. Her last body of work, a contemporary response to the mythology of the golem, is an exploration of the themes of creativity, psychological incipience and the life of the artist. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Marriage-Song grew up in Houston, Texas. She did her arts training at the Water Street Atelier, now the Grand Central Atelier, after which she was awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant twice. She has taught at the Maryland Institute College of Art and was named Baltimore Magazine’s “40 Under 40” for her work creating synergies between the science and art communities in that city. Marriage-Song is often invited to address high school and college audiences, and was a featured speaker at Princeton University at its TedX Conference in 2016. Her work is frequently exhibited and resides in private collections internationally. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
