NYAE Spring Fundraiser
Exhibition and Sale
JUNE 3 - 12, 2021
50 + ARTIST WORKS
EQUITY GALLERY
245 BROOME STREET
New York Artists Equity Association (NYAE) is a nonprofit artist association and attendant exhibition space founded in 1947 to advance the professional aspirations of artists—specifically those from under-represented groups and practices.
Operating an arts enterprise with an emergent market focus has, and will always be, a challenge. During COVID, fulfilling our mission had been especially difficult. Despite the imposing odds, NYAE has remained steadfast in its commitment to our membership and greater community by maintaining a vibrant array of outreach programming. Some quick numbers from the past year and a quarter to back that claim:
• 145K in new cash donations
• 155 new members
• 12 home gallery exhibitions (comprising 6 group, 3 solo, 2 juried, and 1 open call)
• 3 offsite exhibitions
• 2 curatorial residencies
• 1 art fair
• 1 fully funded studio residency
• 12 artist videos
• 11 blog posts
• 12 online projects ( comprising 8 solo, 2 group, 2 open call)
• 8 virtual artist panels and presentations
• 1 brand new website designed to accommodate an updated membership directory, online market and supporting critical content.
Working out of a modest Lower East Side storefront space, our organization has accomplished much with very little thanks to a nimble team comprising dedicated trustees, part-time staff, and volunteers. However, we don’t and can’t do it alone. To ensure that NYAE continues in its source role as an experiential incubator informing the larger art world we proposed a fundraising exhibition to our membership.
The show would comprise donated works by our association of artists, illustrators and allied makers all measuring 6 x 9 inches (all media, on any substrate and ideally to be wall mounted). The overwhelming response to the call, reflecting Equity’s signature solidarity and diverse community of aspirant and established practitioners, will be represented by over 70 donated works priced at $250 dollars, with all proceeds donated to NYAE. The show would include a diverse mix of practitioners, both aspirant and established, as reflective of NYAE’s community.
Exhibition dates are June 3rd - 12th, with an opening reception on Friday, June 4th, 6 - 9pm
