Catherine Lepp: A Second Body

Catherine Lepp will be presenting a new body of work in a solo exhibition curated by Karen Wilkin for Equity Gallery. Lepp has likened the experience of making these works to the dream-sensation of finding an extra room in one’s home. The comparison rings true; the artist has intuitively created a pictorial space full of potential and mysterious vitality, in which items as simple as a receding door plane hold a quiet fascination, and white-veined plants exert a prehistoric and magisterial presence.

Memento Mori: Time, Clarity and the Pursuit of Purpose

April 3, 2025 – April 26, 2025

As we turn the corner on the somnambulance of winter, and the awakening of spring glimpses closer, the concept of “Memento Mori” comes into high relief. Though its direct Latin translation, “remember that you will die”, implies a moribund focus on the inevitability of death, “Memento mori” concurrently insists on an examination of the fleeting condition that precedes said end: an invigorated and courageous life.

TRANSCENDER

NYAE is excited to announce the continuation of the artists’ critique group that originally ran in Bushwick and reprised at NYAE in fall 2023. Sessions will be presented in person at Equity Gallery, 245 Broome St. NYC. Sherilyn Neidhardt will be returning as the key host and point person for the series. The critique format will adhere to previous models whereby the artist narrates a 10-image, nine minute, PowerPoint presentation of their work to a live audience followed by a five minute audience Q&A. All media are welcome so long as works are clearly represented in still images.

Interested participants need to send an email with a single paragraph artist statement and five – seven images to sharilyn.neidhardt@gmail.com with the subject line “transcender application”

Now on view at Equity Gallery is the 2022 annual New York Artists Equity Members Invitational Exhibition. Equity Gallery is the physical exhibition space of the New York Artists Equity Association (NYAE).
